Video Games of The Past - How Much I Miss Them

Posted on | September 22, 2007

Today I was thinking about taking a day off and play some new video games. I found none that really made my day.
I remember the early days of PCs (I am lucky enough to have tech savvy parents :) and the marvelous video games from that period. Who can forget the great Space Invaders, Tetris and the other stuff from the 80’s. Than came the Wolfenstein 3D, Lemmings, Dune 2, Formula One Grand Prix (GPrix).

Those games made me happy not because of great graphics nor sound but because I had to use my imagination a lot. These games also had great controller interfaces and was fairly easy to learn how to play them.

Maybe new games should work more on making you imagine things instead of displaying you high resolution graphic without the proper gaming experience.

Update: I found that by using DosBox you can play all this marvelous games (if you still have the source) in Windows XP and most Linux distributions.

Gotta love those old games. They really did make you use your imagination more, and they are equally if not more fun than current games.
I rented the Campcom Classics for PSP from Gamefly and liked it so much I used the "keep it" option, such a great deal, almost 1/2 as much as buying it new and they sent me the manual and box.

I'm eagerly awaiting the Atari Classics also for the PSP. Gamefly's site shows it for release 11/15/07, It'll be nice to get more classics on the PSP. No description on it yet.
