How People React to Crazy Ideas
by TS on January 20, 2008
During the last couple of weeks I’ve had an enormous number of meetings during which I was mostly trying to explain some crazy ideas and concepts. What I’ve found out is that people react in a strange way when confronted with something new and unseen. There are a couple of segments (based on my personal experience):- The Scared – These people are scared of change. They live in a world of their own, where everything is perfect the way it is. The do not want to see absolutely any change . They live a comfortable life, have just enough money, (usually) don’t work very hard and enjoy the status quo.
- The Grumpys – People who fit in this group understand new concepts quickly but they can not see the bright scenario. Everything will go wrong for sure! They are great for reality checks.
- The Beagle Boys – People who get the concept and start immediately thinking about how they are going to copy what you just presented to them. These are usually bright people but do not see the long term consequences of such behavior – I must say I hate this kind :) Instead of using their knowledge and brightness in order to achieve something really valuable for both parties.
- The Overexcited – They do not get the concept. They don’t understand most of the words you just said to them but they are already ready to cooperate. I like their excitement but only when it is healthy :)
- The Positive Realists – These people get the idea/concept, but they know there are minor details which can stop the show if not addressed the right way. They give good, smart advice. Usually they have a lot of experience. This is the group I like the most, maybe because I hope to fit in it.

damn right… I especially fear the beagle boys and the overexcited – they cost a lot of time, and tehy have the potential to destroy weeks of work within minutes…
