Money vs. Passion

Since I started working for real (about three years ago) I firmly decided that I will stick to my principles. One of these is that I work on things I love and I believe in and not on thing that bring money but are not fun or right. I decided that I will do everything with passion, dedication and love.
I believe that money comes as a consequence of hard work and a big amount of energy directed in the right direction. Passion (and dedication) on the other hand is a key component of success. Great things can not be achieved without a great amount of passion.
The problem is that from time to time one encounters problems that require more hard work and more energy than a single person can produce. When this happens you need a team that can step up and get the job done. Every team member needs to step up and do his/her part in order to deliver - including leading the team with passion and devotion to the final vision.
Bad things can happen if the team is unable to step up. People get upset, they stop talking to each other, they stop sharing knowledge and so on. And they want more money … And you start wondering why? I guess that they are not feeling good about what they do, they feel the need to compensate for that on the cash side, but they probably don’t understand that money will not make them happier or closer to their goals. Working on things with passion will.
I am lucky enough to work with people that tend to understand that hard work, focused on the right things can bring results. I firmly believe we can keep doing some great things.
So ask yourself: “Do I work just because of the money or because I love what I am doing and get paid because I am doing it great?”
